Before you start
Prepare the Twilio account and sender details before opening LaniTech.
- A Twilio account that your business controls.
- The Account SID and current Auth Token for that account.
- A Twilio sender number with SMS capability.
- Permission to manage Communication Channels in LaniTech.
The Auth Token is a powerful secret
Collect the Twilio details
Use Twilio's official console and copy each value carefully.
- 1
Open the Twilio Console
Sign in to the official Twilio Console with the business account that owns the sending number. - 2
Copy the account credentials
Find the Account SID and Auth Token in the account dashboard or API Keys and Tokens area. Account SIDs normally begin with AC. - 3
Choose an SMS-capable number
Open the active phone numbers area, choose the sender, and confirm that SMS is listed as a capability. - 4
Copy the complete international number
Keep the country code and leading plus sign. LaniTech's phone field stores the sender in international format.
Create the SMS channel in LaniTech
The current form saves the Twilio credentials; it does not include a separate Test Connection action.
- 1
Name the channel
Enter an internal Channel Name that identifies the sender, such as Customer SMS. - 2
Select SMS and Twilio
Set Channel Type to SMS. Twilio is the provider currently available for this channel type. - 3
Enter the credentials
Paste the Account SID and Auth Token from the correct Twilio account. - 4
Enter the sender number
Add the SMS-capable Twilio phone number, including its country code. - 5
Review delivery settings
Adjust Max Retries only when required and enable Is Default only if this should be the preferred SMS channel. - 6
Create and test the channel
Select Create Channel, confirm that its card appears, then send a real message to a controlled test contact.
Active means the channel is saved
Send SMS from Conversations
The verified SMS workflow is customer messaging; invoice and quotation actions currently offer email and WhatsApp, not SMS.

Protect and rotate the Auth Token
Treat credential hygiene as part of the channel setup, not a later maintenance task.
- Restrict access to the Twilio account with appropriate roles and multi-factor authentication.
- Never paste the Auth Token into source code, chat, email, or shared notes.
- Rotate the token in Twilio if it is exposed, then update the saved LaniTech channel.
- Review Twilio usage and message logs for unexpected traffic.
Review Twilio's official credential security guidance before sharing access with additional administrators.
Troubleshoot SMS delivery
A saved channel can still fail at the provider or carrier level.
- Confirm the Account SID and Auth Token belong to the same Twilio account as the sender number.
- Confirm the sender number has SMS capability and includes its country code.
- Review trial-account limits and Messaging Geographic Permissions in Twilio.
- Check Twilio's message logs for the provider error and delivery status.
See Twilio's official SMS quickstart for current account and sender requirements, or return to the Communication Channels overview.
